Walnut
A moment to unwind in the city.
At cafe walnut in Yashio, water-bath-baked New York cheesecake, house brownies, weekly single-origin coffee, and Irish malt royal milk tea accompany warm vinyl jazz in a calm setting.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Step inside, and carefully curated jazz records and gentle music drift through a room defined by muted tones and well-stocked bookshelves. Guests place their orders at the counter before finding a table, where each drink arrives in a unique ceramic mug or Iittala glassware.
When it is time for a quiet pause, the homemade baked goods are an easy draw. The New York cheesecake, baked gently in a water bath with plenty of cream cheese, turns out smooth and rich without feeling heavy. Meanwhile, brownies with a crisp crust and a fudgy center come paired with lightly sweetened whipped cream, putting deep chocolate flavor front and center. To drink, choices include the rotating weekly coffee showcasing different roasts and origins, a rich royal milk tea scented with Irish malt, and caffeine-free herbal blends such as spice and ginger.
Come midday, the hot pressed sandwiches make for a comforting meal, served on a plate alongside coleslaw, potato chips, and a small cup of corn soup. Fillings include classic ham and cheese, meat sauce with cheese, and potato with corned beef and cheese. There is also a sweet version featuring banana and maple syrup with whipped cream. For lighter appetites, simple toast choices like pizza toast and cheese toast are available on their own.
Open Thursday through Sunday in the afternoon, the cafe offers a peaceful harbor for reading solo or sharing unhurried conversation.
